Abstract

Gender equity and social inclusion (Gesi) have become mainstream study topics in this century. The book is used in schools today through an Independent Learning Curriculum. These books are the main gates of Gesi cultivation. This study aimed to describe (1) gender equity and (2) inclusion issues in the book at the elementary level. Data were obtained from the Bahasa Indonesia book. The data were analyzed using Gesi instruments through careful and detailed repeated observations. Social inclusion is specific only to people with disabilities. Data analysis uses qualitative and quantitative methods. The results of the study show that independent curriculum books (Books of Bahasa Indonesia 1st–6th Grades) have attempted to apply gender equity and social inclusion, but there are still some words/sentences and images that are gender biased. In terms of sequence, books for 1st and 6th Grade are the best books in terms of gender bias and disability friendliness. © 2026 selection and editorial matter, Irena Y. Maureen, Binar K.
