Hydrometeorological disasters are disasters that dominate natural disasters in Indonesia. East Java is a region in Indonesia that has the potential for hydrometeorological disasters, especially in coastal and mountainous areas. The research objective is to identify hydrometeorological disasters in East Java due to climate change and to identify interesting community experiences related to climate literacy in the adaptation and mitigation process. Information from the public can be an opportunity as material for teaching physics, especially those related to climate change. This research focuses on extracting information from residents regarding their experiences in mitigating and adapting to local disasters, especially those caused by climate change. Learning from information from residents, it was discovered that detection tools were used for disaster mitigation. Through trial learning of physics projects in class, it was found that students were able to design detection tools related to disaster management. This shows that studying climate change in physics classes to support sustainable development is possible. Copyright (c) 2025 The Authors.
