Identification of causes student's misconception: rigid body equilibrium concept

Abstract

This research aims to identify misconceptions and causes of misconceptions regarding rigid body equilibrium materials. The method used was quantitative descriptive with a sample size of 145 science education students. Data collection was carried out using a reasonable multiple-choice question instrument. The causes of misconceptions can be explained by the students' reasons for their answers. The results showed that the causes of students' misconception were found in the three questions, namely, associative thinking, with an average percentage of 39.8%. Associative thinking is likely to cause misconceptions in this material because the material is a collection of connected concepts. If students cannot understand the relationship between concepts, it can cause misconceptions. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
