Abstract

The research aims to describe the forms of expressive illocutionary speech acts and their functions. The data analysis was carried out by flow and descriptive-interpretative techniques, taking into account the context of the speech. The results of the study were literal expressive illocutionary speech acts (77 data) and non-literal (23 data), and the functions of speech are to say thank you (1 data), praise (34), pray or hope (23), ridicule or criticize (15); also other functions (motivate, encourage, and motivate 17 data) The dominant form of literal expressive illocutionary speech acts used by netizens is 77 data, the dominant functions of expressive speech acts are praising (34) and praying or hoping (33 data). Netizens prefer literal expressive speech acts, namely direct and explicit, when conveying comments. The absence of the expressive speech act functions of apologizing, expressing condolences, and blaming is due to the topic being discussed. © 2026 selection and editorial matter, Irena Y.
