Abstract

The adsorption of Cu(II) metal ion onto chitosan nano- bead is studied in this paper. Parameters investigated in this work such as medium of pH, adsorption rate (k1), energies (E) and capacity of adsorption (b). The kinetic model of first order reaching equilibrium and pseudo order 2 nd Ho adsorption were applied to estimate the adsorption rate, whereas the isotherm adsorption Langmuir and Freundlich models were employed in the determination of the energy and the capacity in adsorption. The results showed that the optimum pH of adsorption Cu(II) metal ion on chitosan bead was 5. Cu(II) metal ion uptake on chitosan bead tend followed the Langmuir isotherm adsorption model. Adsorption capacity Cu(II) metal ion for the chitosan bead was 26.60.10-4mole/g. Adsorption Cu(II) ion on chitosan bead tend followed kinetic model of first order adsorption reaching equilibrium. Adsorption rate Cu(II) metal ion on the chitosan bead was 19.16.10 -3min-1. © 2010 American Institute of Physics.
