University governance practice and student satisfaction to enhance student loyalty

Abstract

Good governance practices at higher education sector grew rapidly in this decade. This effort aims to improve educational services to stakeholders. The objective of this study is to test university governance practice and satisfaction as factors that can be used to increase student loyalty. We used online survey consist of 130 student in a public university in Indonesia. Data were tested using correlation analysis. The result showed that governance practice correlate satisfaction positively. Overall, the six dimensions of good governance, namely transparency, accountability, responsibility, independency, fairness, and participation are positively correlated with student satisfaction and loyalty. Furthermore, student satisfaction is also positively correlated with loyalty. The results of this study provide clues that the implementation of good governance by the university can be a strategic basis in facing competition challenges and institution sustainability. © 2018 Elsevier Ltd.
