Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing reading experiences. We'll have to wait for the details to better understand what this gesture means; but this paper, oriented to the AIs of the future, reviews the evolution of experiences reading these works, and the potential for AI literary guides or assistants. With the help of algorithms that can analyze vast data amounts and specialized datasets, AI identifies your preferences, previous reading history, and contextual aspects to suggest books that you may like. Such suggestions are not purely based on genre similarities, but extend to more subtle measures of similarity such as writing style, themes, or emotional impact. Thus, using AI facilitates immersive reading experiences through adaptive interfaces, interactive storytelling, and dynamic content as means to enhance engagement and create deeper connections between readers and texts. However, this transformation also raises ethical considerations: What of data privacy, algorithmic biases and the danger of a cookie-cutter literary landscape? This paper considers the possibilities, challenges and consequences of the AI-mediated acts of reading we have today, through [end-user] critical review and case studies. Lastly, it argues that a balance can and must be struck that allows technology to be used to tap into the potential for AI to revolutionize reading without sacrificing the serendipity, diversity and human interpretation that reading brings. © 2026 Author(s).
