Abstract

The achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5 on gender equality must be pursued to embrace a sustainable transition towards economic growth through green technical innovation. In this study, we focus on the impact of gender on green technology innovation for which purpose we apply an SLR method based in PRISMA to ensure a transparent selection process of relevant articles. The paper reviews literature on the gender - green technology innovation nexus and specifies key trends, gaps, and future research directions. VOS Viewer is also used to visualise and analyse the keyword, co-authorship and subject cluster networks of communication in the field. The findings imply that gender affects the inventions, policy making and market adoptions of green technology differently. The present paper demonstrates the necessity of broader gender policies to provide for sustainable innovation, so as to realise promises behind green technology innovations and a sustainable economy in general. Note this study is to enhance the discovery of fair and new environmental solutions promoting sustainable development by tackling these gender-variations. © 2026 The Authors, published by EDP Sciences.
