Abstract

Previous studies of the nurse call system have not yet explored the use of Wi-Fi as its base, although Wi-Fi networks are standard in hospitals. This study wants to examine the performance of the ESP8266 Wi-Fi module as a node in the nurse call system. Several criteria, such as maximum distance, maximum obstacle, transmission delay, and radiation pattern, will be evaluated. The results ofthis study show that the ESP8266 module can be used in a hospital-like condition with the RSSI value of 80.4 dBm at a distance of 25 m. The ESP8266 has maximum transmission delay of 1.7 seconds and can be installed in any direction. Therefore, the ESP8266 module can be effectively used as a node in a wireless nurse call system. © 2020 IEEE.
