This study aims to design a rectangular patch antenna for WLAN applications by using Sun Flower Defected Ground Structure (DGS) Slot. Microstrip antenna has a narrow bandwidth, therefore several modifications are used, namely the proximity coupled and defected ground structure techniques that can improve the impedance bandwidth performance. The antenna design is simulated with FR-4 substrate material on a 45.0× 35.0× 1.6 mm3 substrate size. The antenna consists of two layers of substrate and copper for the patch, feeding, and the ground with a thickness of 0.035 mm. We compare the conventional ground pane and two types of Sun Flowers DGS in the microstrip antenna. From the simulation results, it was found that the impedance bandwidth of the antenna with DGS Type 3 has better performance compared to conventional MPA but conventional gain is better than with DGS. Impedance bandwidth for DGS Type 3 is -44.356dB at a center frequency of 3.50 GHz while conventional has a return loss of-14.37 dB at a center frequency of 3.59 GHz. Therefore, the microstrip Patch antenna with DGS may be utilized for WLAN, 5G, or satellite communication. © 2023 IEEE.
