Abstract

Urban areas face severe environmental problems, where rapid population growth causes the amount of waste in urban areas to increase. As one of the metropolitan cities, Surabaya also experiences problems related to waste management, where the amount of waste generated by Surabaya residents daily is 1,600 tons. This research uses the literature study method by using some of the existing literature as a data source in this paper. The research results in this paper show that waste management in the city of Surabaya also involves the private sector from several companies and the community's active role in managing waste around their living areas through waste banks. The collaboration was carried out by the Surabaya City Government, PT. Sumber Organik, and the community can work well in dealing with piles of garbage in Surabaya. The existence of a waste bank can help increase public awareness of reducing and recycling waste. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
