Abstract

This study aims to measure the level of mental health of new students, identify factors that affect them, and formulate a mentoring formula based on the local wisdom of private boarding schools as part of efforts to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) and SDG 4 (Quality Education). The approach used is a descriptive quantitative approach using the Self-Reporting Questionnaire-20 (SRQ-20) instrument from WHO. The research sample was new students at the junior high school level who were selected purposively at one of the Women's Private Boarding Schools in Pasuruan. The results of this study shows that the majority of students are in the psychologically vulnerable category. These findings confirm the need for preventive interventions based on local and spiritual values typical of private boarding school to create a healthy, safe educational environment and support the mental well-being of students as a means of realizing quality education. © 2026 The Authors, published by EDP Sciences.
