The role of technology-driven education and ICT in advancing sustainable education is crucial. This research seeks to examine the trends of utilizing Augmented Reality (AR) for supporting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within the educational landscape, while also providing recommendations on how to better implement AR as a learning tool that aids in SDG achievement. This literature review and meta-analysis utilized the PRISMA approach alongside a bibliometric evaluation based on data retrieved from the Scopus database. The findings reveal a significant growth in research on AR for Sustainable Learning over the past decade, with a predominant share of sources coming from conference papers and publications largely contributed by the United States. These results underscore the growing significance of expanding research on AR to further support sustainable education. Future studies are recommended to focus more on exploring AR and mobile learning as tools to enhance sustainable learning, as well as on the potential of immersive learning environments that could contribute to achieving SDGs. This research offers a comprehensive perspective on how Augmented Reality (AR) plays a role in advancing sustainable educational strategies in the context of the digital era. © 2026 Author(s).
