The Green synthesis method is an attractive approach to producing nanoparticles due to its environmentally friendly nature and its ability to provide the same quality as conventional ZnO. Zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) were successfully synthesized using garlic (Allium sativum) bulb extract as a reducing agent using the green synthesis method. XRD results showed that the ZnO crystals formed were hexagonal wurtzite, with crystallite sizes of 30.84 and 42.5 nm for ZnO-G10 and ZnO-G20 samples. FTIR results showed the presence of typical ZnO absorption in the region around 440-480 cm-1. The photodegradation of congo red dye was further studied, and the maximum degradation efficiency reached 99.0% for 120 minutes. These results indicate the potential of ZnO material synthesized by the green synthesis method for photocatalyst applications. © 2024 Institute of Physics Publishing. All rights reserved.
