Abstract

Conventional methods of monitoring exercise have mostly focused on individual athletes, neglecting the importance of simultaneously tracking several athletes participating in group workouts. Nowadays, with the advancement of consumer technology and IoT, it becomes possible to simultaneously monitor a group of athletes' performance. To address this gap, we propose a concurrent real-time exercise monitoring. The system adopts multiple commercial wearable heart rate sensors communicating with a single-board computer via Bluetooth low-energy (BLE). We outline the design and functionality of the proposed system, emphasizing its potential applications in team sports training and performance optimization. The results on the functionality and received signal strength indicator (RSSI) test on a group of people in a gym facility show the feasibility of the system. By concurrently monitoring the heart rate data of multiple athletes, we aim to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of exercise monitoring, specifically targeting the needs of group athletes and their respective sports teams. © 2024 IEEE.
