Ethnomusicology is an approach that can be applied to analyze two or more musical instruments by comparison. The aspects studied are also very thorough from the physical form, the technicality of the scale, to the history of its formation. This is also what is trying to be applied to musical instruments that are similar in appearance, but have the origin of the owners of nonadjacent nations. However, another fact states that Chinese culture with Indonesia has existed for a long time, so this uniqueness is what this study is trying to describe. The results of the study resulted in a high similarity between tarawangsa and erhu in terms of physical form and function, but historical certainty cannot be proven with certainty that erhu had a hand in the creation of tarawangsa or tarawangsa had a hand in the creation of erhu. © 2023 The Author(s).
