Quality of critical thinking-independent learning (CTIL) model and learning materials to improve students' critical thinking skills in applied science education

Abstract

Students' critical thinking skills (CTS) training for students must use suitable learning models. The CTIL model is a learning strategy created to raise students' CTS. The objective of this study is to evaluate the CTIL model's quality, including its learning resources' validity and reliability, as a part of the model for research and development. The main syntax of the CTIL model is (1) motivation, (2) identification and analysis of phenomena, (3) self-investigation, (4) data interpretation and communicating results, and (5) reflection. The results of this study indicated that the value of the content validity of the CTIL model was 3.76, which is in the very valid category, the construct validity was 3.72, which is in the very proper category, while the reliability of the CTIL model was 0.76 which is in the high-reliability category. The results of the CTIL model set's content validity was 3.49 in the very valid category, the construct validity was 3.52, which is in the very proper category, while the reliability of the CTIL model set was 0.82, which is in the high-reliability category. The CTIL model may raise students' CTS for scientific learning based on validity and reliability characteristics. The CTIL model will be empirically tested in future studies to establish its practicality and effectiveness in scientific education. © 2024 Author(s).
