Abstract

This study focuses on the development and validation of a GeoGebra-assisted mathematics test designed to measure semiotic-spatial thinking abilities within the context of Conic Section abstraction, aligning with the Abstraction in Context (AiC) framework. Employing an instrumentation research design, the meticulously crafted test underwent stages of design, content validation by experts, and pilot testing with 20 mathematics education undergraduate students at Universitas PGRI Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The test was specifically tailored to the Analytical Geometry Course, targeting the Conic Section topic. Utilizing statistical tools, including Microsoft Excel, the analyses revealed positive results in terms of content validation, pilot testing, and reliability. Students demonstrated robust semiotic-spatial thinking, particularly in the recognition and building-with stages of AiC. Challenges arose in the consolidation stage, emphasizing the importance of GeoGebra integration. Despite initial hurdles, the GeoGebra-assisted test emerges as a reliable tool for assessing and enhancing students' semiotic-spatial thinking abilities in Conic Section abstraction. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).
