In Indonesia, many regions have traditions that are called customs or local wisdom. This study aims to analyse the concept of fluid physics in the Javanese local wisdom tradition known as "Larung Sembonyo". It is a community tradition that is carried out as an expression of gratitude, a request for smooth farming and abundant marine products. The concept of fluid physics that dominates in this tradition is Archimedes' law. Besides that, other concepts that support the course of this tradition are sea waves, effort, and energy. The method used in this research is descriptive with a qualitative approach. The analysis was carried out by identifying the concepts of fluid physics contained in Larung Sembonyo and explaining the relationship between these physics concepts and aspects of tradition. Relevant physics concepts include the buoyant force that keeps the boat afloat on the surface of the water, boat motion that is affected by water currents, and boat stability in preventing overturning or overturning during the launching process. This understanding can help appreciate aspects of physics in local wisdom traditions and relate them to more general physics knowledge. This research can also provide new insights into how physics concepts are applied in the context of local culture and traditions. © 2024 Author(s).
