A bibliometric analysis of STEM education in higher education

Abstract

This article presents a bibliometric analysis of STEM education publications in higher education. Analysis was based on statistics obtained from the online Scopus database. The study used Microsoft Excel to perform frequency analysis, VOSviewer for data visualization, and Harzing's Publish or Perish for metrics and citation analysis. The publications analyzed were Scopus indexed. A total of 124 valid documents were analyzed, based on the results of keyword searches for "stem education"and "higher education This article reports descriptive and content analysis on the type. The analysis shows that the number of publications per year increased from 2002 to 2022. The most common fields of study are the social sciences. Most publications come from the Unit States. The most influential institution is Tecnológico de Monterrey. Uncommon and under-researched variables related to basic education in higher education are presented along with future study opportunities. © 2024 Author(s).
