The Use of Multiple Representations in Improving the Understanding of The Fraction Concept of Junior High School Students in Terms of Gender

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the use of multiple representations to improve junior high school students' understanding of the concept of fractions in terms of gender. The subjects in this study were 32 students of SMP Negeri 2 Sukodadi Lamongan class 7B. This research method was descriptive qualitative research. The technique of taking the subject used the BSRI (Bem Sex-Role Inventory). Data collection techniques were by giving problem-solving tests and interviews. The results showed that the number of test scores for the multiple representation abilities of grade 7B students in solving problems for each gender had increased: the total number of test scores for questions A = 1,950 and B = 2,325. The representations used by students in solving problems, namely: 14 students (visual), ten students (verbal), four students (visual and verbal), and four students (visual, verbal, and symbolic). © 2024 American Institute of Physics Inc..
