Critical thinking skills (CTS) are essential abilities for students to thrive in the VUCA (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, Ambiguous) era. Developing students' CTS requires an appropriate learning model. The CTIL model, specifically tailored to enhance students' critical thinking abilities, is under examination in this study to evaluate its effectiveness. This research aims to assess the impact of the CTIL model, meeting valid standards, in improving students' CTS with the assistance of Android-based PhET Simulations. Employing a one-group pre-test and post-test design, the study involved 28 seventh-grade students without a control class. The efficacy of the CTIL model was evaluated using a CTS test sheet, with the collected data subjected to both descriptive and quantitative analyses. The outcomes demonstrated a noteworthy enhancement in students' CTS, indicated by an average n-gain of 0.75, categorized as high. The consistent CTS improvement was observed similarly in both classes. This research suggests that the CTIL model effectively enhances students' critical thinking skills in the context of science learning. © 2024 Author(s).
