This descriptive qualitative study aims to look at the process of primary school students' abstraction in understanding the concept of fractions. The abstraction process in this study focuses on precept, an activity that applies processes and concepts owned by students in solving fractional problems. The subject of this study is a primary school student with moderate mathematical ability who studied fractions. Tests were carried out on the data collection on fractions and interviews. The data analysis was carried out by collecting all the data, which would then be organized to select the critical data for this study. The results showed that the subject's abstraction process did not go well. The subject does not yet have the correct concept of fractions, resulting in an improper completion process, especially in understanding the multiplication of a fraction by an integer. In addition, the results also show that the subject preferred to use an answer description rather than symbols in solving the problem of fractions. © 2024 Author(s).
