Abstract

This study aims to analyze the discourse structure in news about The Makan Bergizi Gratis (MBG) ‘free nutritious meal’ Policy in Indonesia based on President Prabowo's statement. The focus of this study consists of the schematization and positioning of actors in the MBG Policy news discourse using the critical discourse analysis (CDA) theory approach. This study uses a qualitative approach. The research data are sentences from President Prabowo's speech related to the MBG policy published in online media. The data source of this study is news published by national online media about Prabowo's statement on the MBG policy. CDA is used in cognitive linguistic analysis, which focuses on the structural configuration of discourse. The results indicate that the schematization in the MBG news shows a strong relational pattern between Prabowo as the dominant agent. Three schemas illustrate that all positive actions originate from Prabowo: 1) motion with impact on the landmark schema; 2) motion into the landmark schema; and 3) the asymmetric schema. In terms of positioning, Prabowo and the cabinet are placed at the center of proximization and present the MBG program as a policy that will happen in the future. Indonesian children and pregnant women are shown as the main moral goals by showing caring and responsible leaders through emotional language and collective pronouns. This research contributes to critical discourse analysis and education policy communication by highlighting the role of media discourse structures in shaping the meaning and legitimacy of policies in the digital media era. © 2026 ACADEMY PUBLICATION.
