Abstract

The rapid development of wireless communication technology has increased the demand for compact, efficient, and high-performance multiband antennas in MIMO systems. This research proposes a tri-band MIMO antenna design with an F-shaped patch configuration, incorporating an integrated meander line structure with parasitic elements and a defected ground structure (DGS) to reduce mutual coupling. The main aim of this design is to support three primary frequency bands- L-band, sub- 6 GHz, and ISM bands- simultaneously without enlarging the overall size. The antenna features two ports and is developed using the Particle Swarm Optimisation algorithm to enhance performance metrics such as reflection coefficient (S11), bandwidth, gain, envelope correlation coefficient, and diversity gain. Simulation results indicate that the antenna achieves a reflection coefficient of -47.02 dB, a VSWR as low as 1.01, a gain of up to 4.58 dBi, a maximum bandwidth of 1.10 GHz, an ECC below 0.01, and a diversity gain approaching 10 dBi. These results demonstrate significant advantages, making it a promising option for next-generation wireless applications like 5G, IoT, and portable devices. © 2025 IEEE.
