Abstract

In this paper, a novel human-inspired metaheuristic algorithm called the Program Manager Optimization Algorithm (PMOA) is introduced, which simulates the strategic decision-making and coordination processes of a program manager overseeing a complex project. The core concept behind PMOA is derived from two fundamental strategies employed by program managers: (i) implementing substantial modifications within individual sub-projects to drive progress toward the main project objective, and (ii) ensuring synchronization among sub-projects through fine-tuned adjustments, enhancing overall project efficiency and coherence. The theoretical foundation of PMOA is presented, followed by a mathematical formulation encompassing two key phases: exploration and exploitation. The performance of PMOA in solving complex optimization problems is assessed using the CEC 2011 benchmark test suite. The results demonstrate that PMOA effectively balances exploration and exploitation, leading to competitive optimization performance on CEC 2011 benchmark functions. Additionally, the algorithm’s effectiveness is validated by comparing its results with twelve state-of-the-art metaheuristic algorithms. The comparative analysis highlights PMOA’s capability to achieve superior optimization results, confirming its potential in addressing real-world optimization challenges. © This article is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License.
