In this study, we introduce the Builder Optimization Algorithm (BOA), a novel metaheuristic inspired by human construction strategies. The BOA mimics two primary strategies used by builders: (i) making major alterations to the structure according to the design, and (ii) performing fine-tuning to enhance details and aesthetics. The algorithm operates in two phases: exploration and exploitation. The exploration phase allows BOA to search for potential solutions, while the exploitation phase refines these solutions to improve performance. To evaluate its effectiveness, BOA was tested on twenty-three benchmark functions, including single- and multi-modal functions. The results show that BOA efficiently balances exploration and exploitation, yielding high-quality solutions. It outperformed ten competing algorithms in most test cases, demonstrating its superior performance in optimization tasks. These findings emphasize BOA’s capability as a robust and effective optimization tool for solving complex optimization problems. © (2025), (Intelligent Network and Systems Society).
