This research examines the semiotic dimensions of the Ajisaka story performed in the Kentrung Jatimenok tradition,anarrativeartformoriginatingfromJava.Usinganethnosemiotic perspective, this research explores the complex cultural narratives and symbolic elements embedded intheAjisakastory.Applyingasemioticframework,theanalysisseekstouncoverthe dynamic interaction between traditional performing arts and the construction of meaning in contemporary Javanese culture. The research utilizes an ethnographic approach and qualitative methods. The findings contribute to a deeper understanding of how traditional performances uphold cultural continuity while adapting to the evolving modern context. In addition, this research also provides insight into the role of narrative symbolism in preserving local identity.
