This research aims to analyze the role of taxes and state defense in nation development and highlight the importance of active participation of the community in carrying out tax obligations and state defence. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach with a literature study method. The research data source is obtained from books and journals related to the study of state defence, taxes, the role of society, and nation-building. The meta-analysis procedure in this study is to collect library data, make notes, and review data sources. Data analysis uses descriptive analysis by collecting and compiling data, which is then analyzed. The results of the research obtained in this study show that taxes play a role in national development as the primary source of revenue for the state to finance various development programs, including infrastructure, education, health, and security. With taxes, the state can provide the essential services the people need. Through tax payments, the community contributes directly to funding state development. Participation in state defence will strengthen national solidarity and ensure state security and sovereignty. Awareness of the importance of paying taxes also creates a stable and attractive economic climate for investment. In turn, it will encourage economic growth and create jobs. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
