Abstract

Octagonal antennas have the potential to be the hub of 5G telecommunications in the current era of modernization due to their geometric shape, which is good at receiving and propagating signals. However, the existing development related to octagonal antennas is still not optimal for implementation in communication devices. Therefore, the research carried out an update to improve the performance of the octagonal antenna by adding parasitic elements on both sides of the patch. The study was conducted through a combination of simulation and experiment, where the antenna design was first created in CST Studio Suite and then fabricated using copper components and a FR4 substrate. From the Vector Network Analyzer (VNA) measurements, the fabricated antenna operates at a working frequency of 3.46 GHz and exhibits a return loss of-48.83 dB. The VSWR parameter is 1.01, and the resulting bandwidth is 1.61 GHz. According to the measurement results, adding the parasite to the octagonal antenna successfully improved and enhanced its performance, demonstrating the potential for application in electronic devices that require 5G communication distribution. © 2025 Praise Worthy Prize S.r.l.-All rights reserved.
