This article examines how ideological education in universities can be designed to prevent the subtle spread of communist ideology by integrating religious values with the principles of Pancasila. Using a qualitative approach, this research involved Islamic Religious Education lecturers from seven universities in East Java through interviews, group discussions, and questionnaires. The findings reveal that communist ideology does not appear openly or in a.organised form but is hidden in secular lifestyles, weak value orientation, and the fading of students' ideological identity. This can be seen in unrestricted social interactions, a lack of concern for religious and national values, and behaviours that deviate from social norms. These signs show a hidden ideological shift similar to modern communist strategies. Although universities have four compulsory national courses to strengthen ideological awareness, their implementation remains theoretical mainly and lacks practical depth. Islamic Religious Education lecturers, therefore, have a crucial role in guiding students to develop ideological resilience by teaching, mentoring, and serving as role models. Integrating religious teachings with Pancasila is considered an effective way to strengthen students' ideological foundation as they face global challenges. This article suggests that universities should update their ideological content to reflect current realities, embed core national and religious values into daily campus life, and strengthen cooperation among lecturers, administrators, and students. These efforts are needed to create a strong ideological ecosystem that protects students from deviant ideas and shapes them into citizens who uphold the nation’s identity and values in a changing world. © 2025, Revival Press.
