The goal of this study is to help students in the Construction Cost Estimation course become better at critical thinking by using a problemsolving based learning model. The study used Classroom Action Research (CAR), which is a cyclical method that includes planning, carrying out actions, observing, and reflecting. The people in the study were students in the 2021A class of the Building Engineering Education Study Program at Universitas Negeri Surabaya. We used student activity observation sheets and pretest-posttest written tests to see how much better students' critical thinking skills got. The analysis showed that post-test scores went up a lot and that students were more involved in the second cycle of learning. These results suggest that using problem-solving methods can help students in the construction field improve their critical thinking skills. © The Authors, published by EDP Sciences, 2025.
